Understandably, since the break-up of my marriage, my daughter, Bella, has had insecurities, one of which is she needs to keep checking I am still around when it is bedtime.

When she is in bed at 7.30, she calls out for something, it could be something she is thinking about from the day, or her leg is itchy, or she needs another hug, or her bear fell on the floor ... anything to hear my voice until 8.15, and then wakes herself during the night to call out, just to keep checking I am there. As you can imagine, in the mornings we are both not too happy. This has been going on for 3 years now. I had tried so many things to reassure her I'm not leaving.

She will be asleep within 10 minutes, and its a deep, restful sleep; there is no calling out during the night; and every morning when she wakes up she is happy, and the first words out of her mouth are, "Good morning Mummy. I love you to Mars and back." I seriously believe this is one of the best investments I have made for her happiness and security. It reinforces everything I tell her during the day............just while she is asleep!
